Introduction to Bryson LaganSports

Bryson LaganSports an Outdoor Adventure Centre, is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Northern Ireland’s leading social enterprise, Bryson Charitable Group.  Located in East Belfast, it has been operational since 1999 and offers innovative outdoor learning experiences using both water and land based activities.  It delivers activities across Northern Ireland and more recently the Republic of Ireland. 


Job Purpose

The Activity Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the operational management of the activities delivered by Bryson LaganSports.  They must provide overall supervision of all land and water activities, ensuring that all instructional staff are correctly qualified to meet industry and legislative standards.  They will also be responsible for the development of programmes consistent with the strategic aims and objectives of the company. 


Essential Criteria:

  • A qualified instructor for a range of outdoor activities e.g. canoeing, kayaking, archery, climbing, expedition leadership,
  • Have detailed knowledge of relevant health and safety standards and accreditations for an outdoor activity centre along with a willingness to obtain any necessary qualifications
  • A proven track record in the management of outdoor activities
  • 2 years’ experience of delivering and leading activity sessions to a high standard.
  • 2 years’ experience of delivering a broad spectrum of water based and land activities
  • 2 years’ experience of successfully working with a wide spectrum of groups, particularly hard to reach.
  • 2 years’ experience of developing and promoting activity programmes
  • Experienced in delivering DofE Award training and expeditions in Hill Walking and Canoeing


Desirable Criteria:

  • A senior RYA instructor
  • 1 year previous line management/supervisory experience
  • Experienced in the management of DofE Open Award programmes
