Local Charities Benefit from Recycling Rewards
Leading social enterprise Bryson Recycling has donated £6551 to three local charities based in Conwy through their “Recycling Rewards” campaign.
Through this innovative annual campaign Bryson donate £1 to charity for every tonne of garden waste collected through their brown bin collection service that they provide on behalf of Conwy County Borough Council.
From the start of December 2020 to the end of September 2021, Bryson collected 6551 tonnes of garden waste, setting their donation amount at £6551. This year they shortlisted three fantastic local charities – St David’s Hospice, Hope House and Incredible Edible and asked Conwy residents to help them choose how much to donate to each through an online vote.
Cllr Greg Robbins, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transportation at Conwy County Borough Council said: “We’re pleased to support the ‘Recycling Rewards’ campaign – it’s good to know that by recycling garden waste, residents are helping local charities as well as being environmentally friendly. The money Bryson Recycling are donating will really benefit these charities that are making a real difference in our communities.”
St David’s Hospice deliver free, high-quality, specialist care to local people living with life-limiting illnesses in Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey. The Hospice received 48% of the votes resulting in a donation of £3144. Commenting on the donation, Margaret Hollings, Commercial Director at St David’s Hospice said: “I’d like to thank everyone who voted for St David’s Hospice through the ‘Recycling Rewards’ campaign this year, and to Bryson Recycling for this tremendous donation towards our work. We will use the money wisely on delivering care to the people living in our community who need care and support, now more than ever”.
Hope House Children’s Hospice provide children’s palliative care ensuring every family facing the death of a child gets the very best care and support when and where they need it. They received 43% of the vote and a donation of £2817. Hope House Area Fundraiser, Beverley Bradley said: “We are so grateful to all the customers at Bryson Recycling for voting for Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice with their recycling scheme. As you can imagine our fundraising income has been greatly affected since the start of the pandemic and we are so delighted to receive this fantastic amount of £2,817, which was match funded in our Final Moments Matter Campaign to £5,634. This very generous donation will enable us to help more local children and their families.”
Incredible Edible galvanise local communities through growing and celebrating local food. They received 9% of the vote and a £590 donation. Celia Williams, one of the founder members of Incredible Edible Conwy, added: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Bryson and all our voting supporters, it will make such a difference in what we can achieve in the local community. Covid has meant that we have been unable to raise funds with our usual methods, so the cheque couldn't come at a better time. We are absolutely delighted and so grateful to be able to receive the donation."

Through this initiative, we aim to raise awareness for the importance of recycling and its positive contribution to the communities we live and work in. Thank you to all the local residents who got involved in the campaign this year – either by voting for their favourite charity or by recycling their garden waste”.
The garden waste service provides households with fortnightly collections of garden waste from home.
