Bryson Future Leaders Programme leads to Leadership and Management Diploma

In Dec 2015, Bryan McGahan was selected with 6 other candidates from across Bryson Charitable Group to take part in the Bryson Building Future Leaders Programme.

The aim of the programme was to select a small number of high potential individuals and provide leading edge development in an intensive and managed way, to assist them to develop and grow in their leadership capabilities.  The programme involved Development Modules, a Strategic Project and an Emerging Leaders Programme (delivered by QUB).

The Strategic project assigned to Bryan (working with Jaroslaw Stanislawek from Bryson Recycling) was investigating opportunities of introducing the Social Supermarket model in Northern Ireland, an area of growth identified from Bryson Energy’s growth plans. The resulting report highlighted potential delivery models and funding streams. These recommendations has informed Bryson Energy’s continuing work in this area; developing new partnerships which so far has included the setup of 5 social supermarket pilots across NI; which successfully integrate heating and eating support.

Alongside the Strategic project ran QUB’s Emerging Leaders Programme which was designed to further develop talented individuals for wider, more strategic, more senior positions. This involved modules including Knowing Yourself; Engaging with Strategy & Lead Change; Showing Leadership; as well as development support including 360 degree feedback, coaching, peer support and networking. The course closely aligned with ILM’s Level 5 in Leadership and Management.

Following successful completion of the Emerging Leaders Programme, Bryan then successfully completed the required ILM assignments, resulting in him being awarded an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management.

Following his regular Annual Performance Review, it was agreed for his continuing profession development, to complete the remaining modules required as part of the Level 5 Diploma. These were successfully completed alongside regular courses run by NICVA, with the ILM level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management being awarded in Oct18.
