Bryson Education has been providing environmental programmes to schools across Northern Ireland since 1984. In the past year, Education staff made over 393 visits to schools, events and community group across Northern Ireland involving around 22601 young people. We currently deliver two education programmes which focus on Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and Energy Efficiency.
The Reduce, Re-use, Recycle programme, entitled ‘Sort it Out!!’, is designed to provide a range of activities including classroom workshops, drama, practical asctivities, presentations and encourages critical thinking skills. The programme is supported by Belfast City Council and Lisburn City Council and currently operations are limited to these Council areas.
The Energy Efficiency Programme is available to all Primary Schools in Northern Ireland and is supported by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. This intervention involves the delivery of an interactive presentation, covering many aspects of energy and energy use including electricity generation, climate change, insulation, energy efficient products and why we need to use energy efficiently.
All our education programmes link with the Revised Curriculum for Northern Ireland and tie in with curriculum aim of
“Empowering young people to achieve their potential and to make informed and responsible decisions throughout their lives”.
In a recent survey on environmental education programmes conducted by MORI/QUB, Bryson was identified as providing one in every five visits to schools in Northern Ireland.
Since 2006, we have supported schools that are working towards ‘Eco-Schools’ accreditation, and our Education Officers have given freely of their time to be trained as Eco-Schools assessors, and have since conducted over thirty assessments for schools.
Bryson Education was awarded Charter Mark in September 2008. Charter Mark is the UK Government’s standard for excellence in customer service. This prestigious accreditation ensures both customers and stakeholders can be confident that all our services are delivered to a consistently high standard.
Whenever possible, we incorporate technology into our work and our new education website provides information and activities for children along with support materials and downloads for teachers.
